As dictated by the 2010 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule final rule, starting Jan. 1, 2010, physicians can no longer bill Medicare using consultation codes (99241-99245 and 99251-99255). ASGE Issues Guidelines on Management of Antithrombotic Agents for Endoscopic Procedures

ASGE has released the new guideline “Management of antithrombotic agents for endoscopic procedures,” which was published in the December issue of GIE: Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Developed by the ASGE Standards of Practice Committee, the guideline states that aspirin and/or NSAIDs may be continued for all elective endoscopic procedures. View the full guideline...

New Multisociety Recommendations: Nonanesthesiologist Administration of Propofol for GI Endoscopy

AASLD, ACG, the AGA Institute and ASGE have released the “Position statement: nonanesthesiologist administration of propofol for GI endoscopy,” which concludes that the administration by nonanesthesiologists of propofol versus sedation with commonly used agents is comparable with respect to their efficacy and safety profiles.
