It is an immense honor to receive the Master Endoscopist award in recognition of my work. I am deeply humbled to have been able to uphold the values of this award, which include dedication of the clinician’s time for patient care and commitment to advancement of GI endoscopy practices. I strongly believe that these should be the values of every gastroenterologist during their practice. I am sincerely grateful to ASGE for recognizing my efforts and supporting me for the last 25 years, and I would like to thank my colleagues, family and everyone who supported me throughout my career.

Dr. Mostafa is a professor of gastroenterology and hepatology at the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute in Cairo. He is an accomplished gastroenterologist and endoscopist with over 40 years of experience in his field. He received his Ph.D. from Cairo University. He achieved the titles of FACG in 2008, MWGO in 2012, FRCP in 2013 and honorary FESGE in 2022.

Dr. Mostafa has been invited to attend over 100 international conferences as a chairperson or speaker, and he has worked in over 60 live workshops. Over the years, Dr. Mostafa established over 20 centers and units in Egypt, and he has been to multiple Arab and African countries to train doctors on GIT diseases, hepatology, and endoscopy.

Dr. Mostafa established the Cairo Training Center (CTC) in 2004 with the goal of bringing doctors from all over Africa to train in Egypt. Some 350 physicians have now been trained at CTC. Dr. Mostafa also set up three GIT endoscopy units in Ethiopia. He was the director of the Educational Committee for the World Endoscopy Organization from 2013 to 2020, during which over 30 endoscopic workshops were conducted all over the world. Also, he created the “Emerging Stars” program that trained doctors from all over the world on soft skills.

He has received 14 national and international awards, including the State Merit Award in Medical Science in 2012 and the Medal of Science and Arts First Class in 2014, which was awarded by the president of Egypt. In addition, he received  honorary membership in ASGE in 2004, he became an ambassador of ASGE for training in 2010 and he received the Human Service Award in 2012.
