ASGE Diversity Statement—ASGE
values and recognizes the importance of embracing diversity and its
impact on strengthening our members’ ability to provide excellent care
to all patient populations, regardless of their background. The Society
is committed to enhancing diversity by educating and training culturally
competent gastroenterologists, as well as providing leadership
opportunities to all members, regardless of gender, age, religion,
racial/ethnic group, sexual orientation, and disability status.
We
ask questions related to diversity, because it helps us to better
understand our members from all backgrounds, and their needs, to provide
a reflection of progress and areas for improvement. We are focused on
attracting, developing, and retaining volunteer leaders who reflect the
diversity of our membership to play key roles in leading the Society. We
seek to create an atmosphere that encourages varied perspectives and
participation on our board, committees, and task forces. We believe that
an open exchange of ideas from diverse perspectives will result in
improved decision making and will best serve our members’ collective
needs and interests and, by extension, those of their patients.
