Call for ASGE Committee Service 2022-2023

ASGE offers a variety of ways for its members to become active in the Society and make a difference for their profession, including participating in committee work.

“The lifeblood of ASGE is its members, and our committees are the engines that keep us positioned as the premier endoscopic society in the world. We are always looking for volunteer members to contribute to the work of our Society. We are fortunate each year to have more volunteers wanting to be involved in the committee structure than we have positions available,” said ASGE President-elect Bret T. Petersen, MD, MASGE. “No matter what your practice type—large or small group, private practice, academic medicine, or otherwise employed—your contributions are extremely valuable to our specialty. On behalf of the Governing Board, I invite you to apply to join one of our committees by filling out our online application form at the link below.

“We have a wide variety of committees that appeal to a full range of interests in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy,” said Dr. Petersen. “ASGE is dedicated to education and improving patient care. Without our committee volunteers, we could not fulfill our mission. Step up and be an integral part of our Society. I urge you to join us as we seek new ways to advance our practice and improve care for our patients.”

About Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
Gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures allow the gastroenterologist to visually inspect the upper gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach and duodenum) and the lower bowel (colon and rectum) through an endoscope, a thin, flexible device with a lighted end and a powerful lens system. Endoscopy has been a major advance in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. For example, the use of endoscopes allows the detection of ulcers, cancers, polyps and sites of internal bleeding. Through endoscopy, tissue samples (biopsies) may be obtained, areas of blockage can be opened and active bleeding can be stopped. Polyps in the colon can be removed, which has been shown to prevent colon cancer.

About the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
Since its founding in 1941, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) has been dedicated to advancing patient care and digestive health by promoting excellence and innovation in gastrointestinal endoscopy. ASGE, with almost 15,000 members worldwide, promotes the highest standards for endoscopic training and practice, fosters endoscopic research, recognizes distinguished contributions to endoscopy, and is the foremost resource for endoscopic education.
