This IBUS workshop has been developed by a group of international experts in IBD and intestinal ultrasound (IUS). Participants will learn about the basics of intestinal ultrasound (IUS) and the role of IUS in diagnosis, follow-up of treatment, and complications in IBD.

The workshop consist in 2 parts:

  • Theoretical and didactic training: participants will engage in an interactive, self-directed eLearning course via IBUS
  • Practical training: the hands-on experience component will be facilitated through an introductory face-to-face course involving sessions with patients

The application period for the full in-person workshop (didactic training + practical training) has now closed. Completion of both components is required to earn the IBUS Module 1 Certificate.

Registration remains open for participants who wish to complete only the theoretical and didactic training through the IBUS eLearning course.

To participate in the Didactic learning:

Benefits of participating in didactic-only learning

Even without hands-on practice, you can still gain:

  • Core principles and frameworks
  • Clinical/technical decision-making logic
  • Rationale behind techniques
  • Best practices, common pitfalls, and safety considerations

If you are still deciding if IBUS certification is right for you or the hands-on option is sold out, the didactic-only option allows a low cost option to still earn CME, ask questions, network with peers and experts in the field, participate in case discussions and debrief while observing the overall experience.

Organized in collaboration with IBUS and SAIA

IBUS
SAIA

Participants will be able to:

  • Develop Foundational Knowledge of IUS:
    • Understand the principles of intestinal ultrasound and how it compares to other modalities for assessing disease activity
    • Identify the key ultrasound assessments  needed to evaluate IBD disease activity  and monitoring
  • Master Technical Proficiency in IUS Techniques:
    • Gain hands-on experience in using IUS t, detecting mural findings including bowel wall thickness, Doppler flow, mural stratification, mesenteric fat as well as assessment of motility in small bowel and haustrations of the colon to help distinguish normal bowel from abnormal bowel
    • Utilize IUS to detect extramural findings such as strictures, fistulas, and abscesses
  • Improve Clinical Decision-Making with IUS:
    • Apply IUS findings to make informed clinical decisions regarding IBD treatment, adjusting treatment plans based on real-time data from ultrasound imaging
  • Implement IUS in Clinical Practice:
    • Learn practical tips for integrating IUS into outpatient settings, setting up IUS clinics, and managing workflows including billing and documentation
    • Explore the application of IUS for special populations such as pregnant patients or those with severe comorbidities, minimizing invasive procedures
  • Ensure Long-Term Knowledge Retention and Application:
    • Engage in ongoing learning through a virtual discussion forum, staying connected with faculty and peers for continuous skill development
