ASGE Calls on the OMB to Withdraw Its Proposed Rule

July 15, 2026

ASGE joined the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), and the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) in submitting a joint comment letter to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) opposing proposed changes to federal financial assistance regulations. The societies expressed concern that the proposed rule would undermine the integrity of the biomedical research enterprise by weakening peer review, limiting scientific collaboration, creating uncertainty for federally funded research, and restricting the dissemination of scientific findings. The coalition urged OMB to withdraw the proposed rule and instead pursue targeted reforms that strengthen accountability while preserving the nation's leadership in biomedical research.
