ASGE’s GIE: Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Ranks as Top Journal Worldwide in Endoscopy Field

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill – June 26, 2019 -- According to Impact Factor ratings released on June 20, GIE: Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the official peer-reviewed journal of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), continues to grow, as demonstrated by its ranking in the field of endoscopy.

The journal received an Impact Factor of 7.229 for the year. This scientometric index represents the broad impact GIE has in the field of GI and hepatology, positioning the publication as the top-ranked journal worldwide in the field of endoscopy.  This year’s number reflects continued growth for the journal.

According to Editor-in-Chief Michael Wallace, MD, MPH, FASGE, “As this journal continues to lead in both traditional and new social media efforts, we owe our success to our readers, authors, editorial team, peer reviewers and leadership of ASGE.” He went on to note the continued support and research efforts that foster “the growth of the profession and its immeasurable impact on GI patient care.”

The Impact Factor of an academic journal is an index that reflects the yearly average number of times that articles published in that journal are cited. This index is considered an indication of the relative importance of a journal within a given field.

GIE is published monthly, with Articles in Press published online prior to the print issue. The journal also is the vehicle for publication of new ASGE guidelines, technology reviews and white papers. Guidelines and selected articles are open to the public, with the remaining content open to ASGE members.
