ASGE is continuing its tradition of offering a comprehensive review of endoscopic technique and clinical management for fellows in their first year of a US-based GI fellowship. Upper and lower endoscopy and case-based endoscopic intervention form the basis of the curriculum for this program. Foreign body management, diagnostic upper endoscopy, and advanced techniques will also be addressed. The program offers a unique hands-on training session using ex-vivo animal models at the ASGE IT&T. 

For this option, fellows must attend in-person. Space is limited to the first 100 registrants.

ASGE has put in place additional safety measures following the recommendations of the CDC and the Illinois Department of Public Health rules and regulations.

Participants will receive a copy of the course recording within 10 business days of the course.

Participants will be able to:

  • Perform the fundamentals of diagnostic upper and lower endoscopy, including principles of informed consent, procedure indications, biopsy techniques, and adverse events
  • Assess routine and special needs for successful sedation of the patient
  • Recognize infection control guidelines
  • Manage foreign bodies, including techniques for retrieval of ingested objects and indications for emergency endoscopy
  • Recognize the principles of electrocautery
  • Diagnose and manage bowel obstructions, as well as techniques for dilation of the GI tract
  • Determine diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for managing acute upper and lower GI bleeding
  • Handle endoscopes and endoscopic devices
  • Recognize the principles of feeding tube placement
