Master Endoscopist Award

M. Stanley Branch, MD, FACP, FASGE

"I am honored and humbled to receive the Master Endoscopist award. I would like to thank ASGE President Dr. Jennifer Christie and the members of the Awards Committee for considering me. Being a member of the ASGE has been a wonderful experience. My ASGE colleagues have been so generous with their time and support of my career over many years. There are more of you than I can name, but please know how indebted I am to each of you. I would like to specifically thank my mentor, Dr. Peter Cotton, my colleagues at Duke, our fellows who put their trust in me for their training and our endoscopy and clinic staff. They have all taught me to be a better physician, and this award is a tribute to this wonderful team."

Dr. Branch is a tenured professor of medicine and the former clinical chief of gastroenterology for Duke Health and Medical Director of Endoscopy at Duke University Medical Center. He is a recipient of the Tow Humanism and Duke School of Medicine Master Clinician awards. He has served as the president of the North Carolina Society of Gastroenterology, as well as ASGE committees and faculty of national and international courses. Dr. Branch has been a member of the ASGE since 1993. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, his internal medicine residency from the University of Texas Southwestern (Parkland Hospital) and his GI fellowship and advanced endoscopy training at Duke University Medical Center.

Dr. Branch’s interests have centered on ERCP and advanced endoscopy, biliary and pancreatic diseases and the development of clinical programs at Duke and training in endoscopy.
