Colorectal Cancer Screening

colorectal-screening

According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths when numbers for men and women are combined. ASGE advocates for policies and federal funding to increase awareness of the value of colorectal cancer screening. Protect access to age-appropriate preventive colorectal cancer screening and surveillance colonoscopy without patient cost-sharing.

Key Issues

  • Update Federal Guidance: Request the Department of Health and Human Services to revise FAQ guidance for commercial insurers under the Affordable Care Act to include surveillance colonoscopy in the screening continuum without cost-sharing.
  • Immediate Elimination of Cost Sharing for CRC Screening: Advocate for legislation that would eliminate cost-sharing using an accelerated timeline for Medicare beneficiaries undergoing preventive screening colonoscopy with polyp removal.
  • Colorectal Cancer Screening Awareness: Increase public education on the importance of colorectal cancer screening.
