Respected Sir/Madam,

At the outset I would like to convey my profound gratitude for helping me have my dream experience as a part of ASGE endoscopic training award. I visited University of Chicago, Illinois April 11 to May 10, 2023 for a period of 1 month.

I visited the Department of Small Bowel and Nutrition for the first 2 weeks under Prof. Carol Semrad. I had a rich experience having observed deep enteroscopy (double balloon enteroscopy: DBE), DBE assisted ERCP, capsule endoscopy and various nutritional access techniques (Placement of PEG and PEG-J tubes among others). I learned how to manage nutrition in critically ill patients, observed Prof. Semrad and other consultants in the clinic managing patients with small bowel disorders including: celiac disease, short bowel syndrome, small bowel Crohn’s disease among others. I enhanced my knowledge significantly by taking ward rounds and interacting with the nutritional team consisting of dietitians, pharmacists, nurses and visiting small bowel specialists.

In the later 2 weeks of my stay, I visited the department of inflammatory bowel disease where I observed the cutting-edge management of complex IBD. I visited the outpatient clinics, participated in ward rounds, and academic seminars in basic and clinical IBD. I had the opportunity to present my research to the faculty and witness numerous state of the art lectures every week during the academic meetings including those from invited faculties. Prof. Rubin was instrumental in making my visit to the University of Chicago worthwhile. I had the opportunity to be part of the best of DDW meeting during the last few days of my tenure while Digestive Disease Week 2023 was ongoing. In that way I was fortunate to interact with several experts in IBD.

The University of Chicago faculties specially Prof. Semrad and Prof. Rubin greatly helped me to prepare my oral presentation at DDW 2023 (the MOTOR CD trial comparing balloon and motorized spiral enteroscopy).

Most importantly, I had the opportunity to observe "Point of care ultrasound (POCUS)" for real time decision making in IBD. Coming back to India I have started POCUS as one of the two centers in India to do that which has tremendous impact on management of IBD here in India.

I would like to thank ASGE for this fulfilling, life changing opportunity to advance my skills in the field of small bowel endoscopy and IBD management.

Best Regards,
Yours Faithfully,
