The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) supports efforts to promote equitable physician compensation for the workforce. Equal compensation should include pay, benefits, clinical and administrative support, clinical schedules, institutional responsibilities, and, where appropriate, support for researchers.
ASGE supports transparency and routine assessment of the equity of physician compensation arrangements by all organizations that employ physicians. ASGE additionally supports pay structures that allow for a more diverse workforce. This includes supporting a flexible work structure and providing pathways for part-time work. Additionally, we recommend compensation for tasks that research has identified as disproportionally falling on female physicians.
Eliminating disparities in the physician workforce is a major objective of ASGE. ASGE supports further research on the reasons for and effect of gender pay inequity and barriers to career advancement and the best practices to close these gaps across all practice settings.
