Congratulations to the 2025 Endoscopic Training Award Recipients

Enrik John Torres Aguila, MD-MBA, RND
St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City, Philippines
Dr. Aguila will train at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, under the mentorship of Tyler Berzin, MD, FASGE. His training will emphasize advanced endoscopic techniques, including cholangioscopy, complex ERCP procedures, therapeutic EUS, radiofrequency and cryotherapy for Barrett’s esophagus, endoscopic mucosal resection, and stenting. This comprehensive experience will prepare Dr. Aguila to address a full spectrum of gastrointestinal diseases.

Varun Kesar, MD
Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Roanoke, VA
Dr. Kesar will travel to Jichi Medical University in Tochigi, Japan, to train under Hironori Yamamoto, MD, FASGE. His training will focus on cutting-edge techniques in submucosal endoscopy and enhanced lesion detection in the colon, with a particular emphasis on optical diagnosis.

Enock Syabbalo, MD
University of Zambia School of Medicine, Lusaka, Zambia
Dr. Syabbalo will train at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, under Akwi W. Asombang, MD, MPH, FACG, FASGE. His training will include observation of both general and advanced procedures, hands-on engagement with endoscopic equipment, and participation in multidisciplinary meetings. He will also gain insight into patient management across healthcare systems, following cases from admission through discharge.
