Modernized Scheduling for VA Community Care Appointments

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is implementing a faster way to schedule Veteran community care appointments with a new program called External Provider Scheduling (EPS). EPS uses a cloud-based technology that allows VA schedulers to book approved appointments directly into your system — at no additional cost to you. This innovative process simplifies the referral and scheduling process, eliminating the need for multiple phone calls and faxes to coordinate patient preferences, helping you focus on what matters most: patient care.

EPS is a one-stop solution for coordinating with VA!

  • Streamlined Coordination: EPS enables VA schedulers to book directly into your system in real-time – reducing the number of phone calls and faxes for you and your staff, saving you valuable time. EPS-scheduled appointments also include the authorized referral number for your convenience, giving Veterans faster access to care.
  • Improved Collaboration: EPS enhances your partnership with VA through faster, more efficient care coordination.
  • EPS Integrates with Your Scheduling Systems: EPS integrates with 150+ electronic health records (EHR) and scheduling systems. EPS also partners with health care industry leaders like Zocdoc, Blockit, and Kyruus ensuring we are able to seamlessly connect with your schedule.
  • Secure Patient Files: EPS does not access patient information; all patient files remain safe and secure.
  • Full Control: EPS allows you to remain in full control over your schedule, sharing only the appointment slots you want to share with VA.
  • Zero Cost: EPS is completely free to use – no new software or licensing purchases.

About Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
Gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures allow the gastroenterologist to visually inspect the upper gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach and duodenum) and the lower bowel (colon and rectum) through an endoscope, a thin, flexible device with a lighted end and a powerful lens system. Endoscopy has been a major advance in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. For example, the use of endoscopes allows the detection of ulcers, cancers, polyps and sites of internal bleeding. Through endoscopy, tissue samples (biopsies) may be obtained, areas of blockage can be opened and active bleeding can be stopped. Polyps in the colon can be removed, which has been shown to prevent colon cancer.

About the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
Since its founding in 1941, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) has been dedicated to advancing patient care and digestive health by promoting excellence and innovation in gastrointestinal endoscopy. ASGE, with almost 17,000 members worldwide, promotes the highest standards for endoscopic training and practice, fosters endoscopic research, recognizes distinguished contributions to endoscopy, and is the foremost resource for endoscopic education. Visit Asge.org and ValueOfColonoscopy.org for more information and to find a qualified doctor in your area.
