Amandeep Shergill, MD, MS, FASGE, is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at University of California, San Francisco and serves as the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology for the San Francisco VA Health Care System.
Dr. Shergill received her medical degree from University of CA, Los Angeles, and completed her internal medicine residency and GI Fellowship at University of CA, San Francisco. She subsequently received a MS in Environmental Health Science with a focus on ergonomics from University of CA, Berkeley.
Dr. Shergill is a general gastroenterologist with clinical interests in IBD, IBD endoscopy and quality of endoscopy. Her research interests focus on endoscopic ergonomics and mitigating endoscopy related injury. She was the recipient of the 2008 ASGE Career Development Award and Endoscopic Research Award, and her work has helped to establish the field of endoscopy ergonomics and the mechanisms that cause work related musculoskeletal disorders in endoscopists. She is an advocate for user centered tool and workplace designs that reduce the risk of injury and optimize endoscopist performance.
Dr. Shergill is a graduate of the ASGE LEAD program. She is completing her term as an Associate Editor for GIE and is a member of the ASGE Women’s Committee.
