Graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences of Sorocaba, Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (1984), with a Medical Residency in General Surgery at Hospital Jaraguá - São Paulo (1985-1988) and Specialized Training in Digestive Endoscopy at Hospital das Clínicas - University of Sao Paulo Medical School "FMUSP" (1989-1990). Obtained a Master's degree in Gastroenterology from the Brazilian Institute of Studies and Research in Gastroenterology -(1994), a Doctorate in Digestive System Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo - (2000), and became an Associate Professor at the University of Sao Paulo Medical School - "FMUSP" (2012).
Was a Director of the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Service at Hospital das Clínicas da FMUSP (2009-2024). Responsible for training over 400 residents in the specialty of endoscopy, including doctors from South America, the United States, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Angola, Sudan, Egypt, among others (2009-2024).
Responsible for the Specialized Complementation Program (Fellows) in Advanced Digestive Endoscopy (ERCP - EUS) at Hospital das Clínicas da FMUSP (2009-2024), and the Specialized Complementation Program (Fellows) in Bariatric and Metabolic Endoscopy at Hospital das Clínicas da FMUSP (2025).
Supervisor of the Postgraduate Program at the Department of Gastroenterology at FMUSP (2008-2025), having supervised 52 postgraduate students, including 10 in scientific initiation, 29 in Master's degree, and 13 in Doctorate by FMUSP (2008-2025). Researcher with Financial Aid from "FAPESP" - São Paulo Research Foundation, and "CNPQ" - National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. Level 1B. Creator and Coordinator of the Fellowship Program in Endoscopy at the D'Or Research and Teaching Institute “IDOR” (2025), and the Medical Residency Program in Endoscopy at the D'Or Research and Teaching Institute “IDOR” (2025). Extensive academic curriculum, published 467 articles in medical journals, 162 book chapters, and author of 17 medical books, receiving 42 awards at national and international congresses.
Current Vice President of the South America Outreach Committee of the World Endoscopy Organization (Co-chair WEO Outreach Committee South-America 2024-2026), and Member of the NGO Non-Governmental Organization - Health Expeditionaries (“EDS”).
Currently, President of the Brazilian Society of Endoscopy and Digestive Endoscopy “SOBED” (2025-2026).
His academic life revolves around teaching and research in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Advanced Digestive Endoscopy.
