International Service Award

Randhir Sud, MD, FASGE

“I am delighted to receive the prestigious ASGE International Service Award. This recognition reaffirms my commitment to foster a closer relationship between ASGE and international community of GI endoscopists, particularly in India. This effort has greatly helped in training and bringing best practices in GI endoscopy to India and other neighboring countries. I indeed feel honored that the awards committee considered me worthy of this recognition.”

Dr. Sud is the chairman of the Institute of Digestive and Hepato-Biliary Sciences, Medanta-The Medicity in Gurgaon, India, the past president of the Society of GI endoscopy of India (SGEI), a fellow of the Society of GI Endoscopy of India (FSGEI) and a master of endoscopy of SGEI (MSGEI). His honors include the SGEI Lifetime Achievement Award and the Indian Society of Gastroenterology’s F. P. Antia Lifetime Achievement Award. What’s more, the president of India honored Dr. Sud with the Padma Shri – one of the highest civilian honors in India – for his contributions to medicine.

Dr. Sud received ASGE FASGE recognition for his contributions to GI endoscopy. He was a member of an ASGE International Committee working group from 2008 to 2010. Dr. Sud has promoted endoscopy in India through live courses and hands on programs since 1986.

Dr. Sud established the two largest GI endoscopy facilities in north and central India, and he is actively involved in GI endoscopy training and establishing best practices in GI endoscopy and developing leadership and promoting research in the GI specialty. It is also worth noting that Dr. Sud oversaw an ASGE international membership drive in India during his SGIE presidency.

Dr. Sud established ASGE learning centers during major endoscopy meetings in India, and he made sure that ASGE’s educational resource are available to post graduates and fellows at his center.

Dr. Sud organized the Indian Society of Gastroenterology Annual Congress (ISGCON) in Delhi in 2016, which included a joint post graduate course with ASGE. He is also credited with forming a collaborative ASGE leadership group to improve intersociety participation and collaboration.

Dr. Sud has conducted live endoscopy courses in India on a regular basis to disseminate the art and science of endoscopy. Many of these programs have been attended by ASGE’s past and present presidents, including Richard Kozarek, MD, David Carr Locke, MD, Steven Endmundowicz, MD, Robert Hawes, MD, and Prateek Sharma, MD.

Dr. Sud has participated in endoscopy programs at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, UTMB Galveston Texas and the University of Alabama Hospital as invited faculty.
