I am writing to express my profound gratitude for your support, which enabled me to undertake this remarkable experience as a recipient of the 2020 ASGE Endoscopic Training Award. Due to the pandemic, I completed this training in March 2023 over one month, with the privilege of visiting the Institute of Digestive and Liver Care at SL-Raheja Hospital in Mumbai, India, under the mentorship of Dr. Vinay Dhir.
During this time, I observed advanced interventional endoscopic ultrasound procedures, such as EUS antegrade biliary stenting, EUS-guided hepatico-gastrostomy, and gastroenterostomies, including complex live case demonstrations for international conferences. These observations provided me with invaluable insights and tips on each procedural step. I received specialized hands-on clinical training in endoscopic ultrasound, with direct feedback from Dr. Vinay Dhir, which significantly enhanced my skills and confidence in performing EUS. Furthermore, I deepened my understanding by participating in case discussions with IDL physicians and Dr. Dhir, particularly concerning the management of complex biliary and pancreatic diseases.
Dr. Dhir’s extensive experience in training endosonographers worldwide allowed me to witness his effective teaching methods. I hope to replicate and share these methods in the future. My time in India was incredibly enriching on both a professional and personal level, and I believe this experience marks a pivotal moment in my career.
Since returning to my country, Mexico, I have actively promoted the use of endoscopic ultrasound by performing therapeutic procedures in my practice, drawing from the confidence and skills I gained during my training. I am also collaborating with Dr. Vinay Dhir on developing a scientific publication.
