Vanessa M. Shami, MD, FASGE, is Professor of Medicine and Director of Endoscopic Ultrasound in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Virginia Medical Center. She has received numerous teaching awards, including the University of Virginia Department of Medicine Excellence in Teaching Award, and is an elected member of the University of Virginia Academy of Distinguished Educators. She maintains a busy clinical practice, which embraces her interests in Barrett’s ablation, upper and lower EMR, GI oncology, and pancreaticobiliary medicine. Her clinical research has led to numerous papers, and she co-edited a textbook on EUS. Dr. Shami currently serves as a Councilor on the Governing Board of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and member of the VideoGIE Editorial Review Board.
